BITE Non-Profit
BITE works at the intersection of food access and climate impact — a mission that's easy to explain badly and hard to explain well. The site needed to make a genuinely layered issue easy to understand at a glance, without flattening it into a slogan, while still giving visitors a clear way to support the work.
The Project at a Glance
Industry: Nonprofit / climate and food systems
Platform: Squarespace 7.1
Focus: Mission clarity, program storytelling, donation and involvement pathways
The Challenge
Climate and food-systems work is conceptually layered — it touches agriculture, access, and environmental impact all at once — and nonprofit sites in this space often either oversimplify the mission into a generic "sustainability" message or over-explain it into something only a policy wonk would read past the first paragraph. BITE needed a middle path: clear enough for a first-time visitor, substantive enough to hold up to someone evaluating whether to fund the work.
The Approach
The homepage leads with a plain-language explanation of what BITE actually does before going deeper into programs, since most visitors are arriving with curiosity, not prior context. Program pages go deeper for the visitors who want it, and every page keeps a visible path toward donating, volunteering, or learning more.
Key Features We Built
A homepage structured to explain the mission clearly in the first few seconds
Program-specific pages for visitors who want more depth
Clear, low-friction donation and volunteer pathways throughout
Content built with AI-search visibility in mind, since mission-driven orgs increasingly get discovered through AI Overviews and assistant-style search
The Result
A site that makes a genuinely complex mission easy to grasp quickly — which matters both for donor trust and for how the organization gets found and understood by new audiences online.
FAQ
Q: How much does a Squarespace website cost for a nonprofit?
Many nonprofits qualify for Squarespace's nonprofit discount on platform fees, and a focused, done-for-you build keeps design and development costs predictable.
Q: How do you build a nonprofit website for a complex, mission-driven cause?
By leading with a plain-language explanation on the homepage and reserving depth for dedicated program pages, so visitors aren't asked to absorb the full complexity before they've even decided to care.
Q: Can a Squarespace site be optimized for AI search and AI Overviews, not just Google?
Yes — with clear, well-structured answer-first content and proper schema markup, Squarespace sites can be optimized to show up in AI-generated answers as well as traditional search results.
