Last Chapter Matcha

Last Chapter Matcha is a San Jose matcha pop-up that came to Chikara Digital with three specific goals: make their customer testimonials easier to find and more convincing, turn more website visitors into leads for upcoming pop-ups, and clean up online ordering so fewer people drop off mid-checkout.

‍ ‍

The Project at a Glance

  • Industry: Food & beverage / pop-up retail

  • Location: San Jose, CA

  • Platform: Squarespace 7.1

  • Focus: Testimonial visibility, pop-up lead generation, simplified online ordering

‍ ‍

The Challenge

‍A pop-up doesn't get the benefit of a permanent storefront's built-in trust — there's no walk-by foot traffic building familiarity over time, so social proof has to do more work, faster. On top of that, the previous site wasn't capturing the people who did show up interest into anything actionable for the next pop-up, and the online ordering flow had enough friction that some customers were abandoning their cart before finishing checkout — a real problem when pop-up windows are short and every missed order is a missed sale that day.

‍ ‍

The Approach

Testimonials, front and center. Rather than burying reviews on a separate page, testimonials now show up directly on the homepage and ordering page — the two places people are actively deciding whether to trust the brand enough to order.

A real lead-generation engine, not just a contact form. The site now captures interest at the moment it's highest — right when someone's looking at a pop-up announcement — and turns it into a subscriber list the business can re-engage for every future event, instead of losing that visitor the moment they close the tab.

Online ordering with fewer steps. The ordering flow was simplified to cut unnecessary clicks and form fields, so someone can go from "I want this" to "order placed" without friction getting in the way.

‍ ‍

Key Features We Built

  • A testimonials section embedded on the homepage and ordering page, pulling in real customer reviews as social proof exactly where buying decisions happen

  • A lead-capture signup tied to pop-up announcements, so every interested visitor becomes someone the business can notify directly about the next event

  • A streamlined online ordering flow with fewer steps between browsing the menu and completing checkout

  • Mobile-optimized design throughout, since most ordering and browsing happens on a phone

‍ ‍

The Result

‍A site that builds trust faster through visible testimonials, converts more visitors into a reusable list of leads for future pop-ups, and removes the friction that was costing Last Chapter Matcha completed orders.

FAQ

Q: How do you make customer testimonials more effective on a small business website?
By placing them where the buying decision actually happens — like the homepage and ordering page — rather than a separate testimonials page most visitors never click into.

‍ ‍

Q: How can a pop-up business generate more leads for future events?
By capturing visitor interest at the moment it peaks, usually right after they see an event announcement, and routing it into a list the business can directly notify before the next pop-up.

‍ ‍

Q: How do you reduce cart abandonment for online food ordering?
By cutting unnecessary steps and form fields from the checkout flow — every extra click between "I want this" and "order placed" is a chance for a customer to lose momentum and leave.
